Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Golf clubs
- Golf balls
- Golf lesson
Step1
Purchase or borrow a set of golf clubs. Golf clubs can be expensive, but if you are just starting out, you do not need the top of the line.
Step2
Sign up for a golf lesson from your local PGA professional. Taking a few minutes to learn the basics can make a big difference in your game.
Step3
Learn the rules. Before you venture out onto a golf course, make sure you know the basic etiquette of golf. Many clubs have rules about wearing collared shirts and no jeans.
Step4
Start with the grip. Grip the club in your left hand with your thumb extended down the shaft. Place your right hand on the club with your right pinkie finger overlapping or interlocking with your left index finger. The club should rest in your fingers.
Step5
Make sure you are lined up correctly. The club face should be aimed at your target. Your feet should make a line that is parallel to where you would like the ball to go.
Step6
Swing the club back and turn your shoulders. Try not to stand up straight as you turn. Remember that taking the club back fast does not equate to hitting it a long way.
Step7
Finish your swing. Shift your weight to your left side and swing the club back through the ball.
