Things You'll Need:
- Craft wire
- Duct tape
- Pair of pantyhose
- Elastic
- Sewing needle
- Thread
- Scissors
- Wire cutter
- Fabric
- Ribbons
- Sequins
- Glitter
-
Step 1
Begin with a piece of aluminum wire purchased from a craft store. Thicker wire makes for sturdier wings. The piece may be anywhere from 5 feet long for a small child to 10 feet long for an adult.
-
Step 2
Shape the wire into a large circle and tape the ends together with duct tape to prevent any sharp poking.
-
Step 3
Twist the large circle once so that it becomes a figure 8. Fasten the intersection with some tape to prevent shifting.
-
Step 4
Bend each side of the figure 8 into a wing shape. Be creative; there is no right or wrong way. Pointy angular wings and round wings are both cute.
-
Step 5
Cut the legs off of a pair of pantyhose. Stretch one leg over each side of the wings. Tie the open ends of the legs together in a knot in the middle of the inside part of the wings.
-
Step 6
Decorate the wings. Use sequins, ribbon and glitter to personalize the fairy wings and sew pretty and sheer fabric onto the pantyhose. Use multiple fabrics for a patchwork design.
-
Step 7
Sew elastic loops onto the back of each wing for armholes.
