If you thought potty training your child was the end of bathroom frustration, think again! Perfecting the art of good hygiene, and good aim, is an on-going battle that may lead to unpleasant odors. Creating a fresh environment can make the learning process easier and healthier for you and your child. By following some daily steps and making a few additions to your child’s bathroom, a fresh room will emerge!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Foaming soap
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Air freshener

Step1
Keep freshly-scented foaming soaps on your sink for your child to use. Children love the foaming soaps, and the citrus scents available now leave a lasting fragrance in the room
Step2
Store a container of disinfecting wipes in your child’s bathroom. After putting the kids in bed, a quick, daily wipe-down around the toilet, tub and sink reduces germs and that stale odor that can become overpowering without daily cleaning.
Step3
Close shower curtains on a daily basis. Leaving shower curtains open will create a feeling of disorder and can cause mildew to grow on your liner.
Step4
Remove hampers from your child’s bathroom. A warm, moist environment and a bin of dirty clothes do not make for a pleasant smell.
Step5
Hang towels on a towel bar instead of a hook. It takes longer for towels to dry on hooks, and this can lead to mildew and odors.
Step6
Use an air freshener on a window sill or shelf, or use a plug-in air freshener. This is a safer alternative to a scented candle for a child’s bathroom since there is no need for an open flame.
Step7
Open the windows frequently, if possible, allowing the moisture to escape and the fresh air to work its magic. Opening windows frequently or using fans will circulate the air freshener’s scent and help reduce mildew by removing moisture from the room.

Tips & Warnings

  • Citrus-scented air fresheners and disinfecting wipes create a fresh feeling, even if the overall bathroom is in need of cleaning!
  • Always keep disinfectants and cleaners in a locked cabinet or out of reach of children.
  • Never leave air fresheners within reach of small children.
