Homemade cleaning products make great sense both economically and environmentally. The same basic ingredients can clean many different surfaces. These simple recipes to make non-toxic bathroom cleaners are formulated for bathroom cleaning (a scrub and a toilet bowl cleaner) but could be adopted for a variety of messes in your home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Homemade Scouring Scrub

Step1
Assemble all the ingredients and measure out the portions.
Step2
Combine the dry ingredients, baking soda and borax.
Step3
Add the dish soap in small increments to make a spreadable paste. If you add too much soap, simply add a little more of the dry ingredients.
Step4
Store your scouring scrub in a resealable plastic storage container. Label the container accordingly with a permanent marker. Use this scrub on the tub and sink.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Step1
Mix the measured portions of borax and vinegar in a plastic container.
Step2
Empty as much water from the toilet tank as possible. While wearing plastic gloves, take the paste mixture and spread it over the inside of the toilet bowl. Allow it to sit for about 30 minutes, longer if you have heavy stains.
Step3
Scour the toilet bowl with the paste using your toilet brush.

Tips & Warnings

  • Double these recipes and store the extra for your next bathroom cleaning.
  • Just to be on the safe side, keep your non-toxic bathroom cleaners safely away from kids and pets.
