How to Use Spirituality in Daily Life

Twenty-first century technology has created a global society, connecting eastern and western culture in ways never imagined. One of the greatest benefits of this is the way spirituality has evolved. Historically, people used spirituality as a way to seek happiness and a life of purpose. Incorporating spirituality into our hectic schedules prepares us for all that life has to offer in a single day. Daily spirituality that is innovative and flexible enhances a deeper connection to the inner-self.

Instructions

    • 1

Set aside a particular amount of time daily to spend on spiritual practices. Once you've determined how much time, focus on the part of the day when you feel most energized. Remember, any time can be an opportunity to meditate, read an inspirational passage, listen to spirit-centered music or natural sounds. Start with small increments of 5 minutes and increase at your own pace.

    • 2

Designate a location, preferably a quiet place that you find yourself in consistently and daily. You are not limited to places in your home. Use travel time in cars, on the train or bus. Lunch or break time at work are possibilities as these are typically pre-scheduled. Outside of home, consider the places that allow you at least 5 minutes of mental freedom.

    • 3

Raise your level of awareness of self, others and your surroundings. Observation is a key component in experiencing personal spirituality. Integrate items that stimulate the senses. Candles, incense, nature sounds or music can spiritually intensify the experience.

    • 4

Decide what spiritual goal or insight you would like to achieve. A significant correlation exists between science and spirituality in the quest to heal the human body. Spirituality can address issues of physical, psychological, emotional and personal challenges.

    • 5

Involve your whole self. Reading, singing, dancing and exercise all can be part of the expression of spirituality. Verbal communication such as prayer or chanting approaches spirituality holistically. Journal writing is a powerful way to assess and evaluate spiritual growth and insight. Bathing and water experiences are healing techniques associated with daily spiritual practices.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be aware that spirituality is not the same as organized religion. However, your religious experience can be enhanced by using spirituality.

  • Spirituality is as individual and diverse as the people who practice it. Spirituality centers on consciousness of the mind, body and spirit. Many traditional religious beliefs include spiritual concepts in their doctrines.

  • Always consult a health care provider when experiencing an ongoing medical condition. There are many holistic practitioners, so be sure to research any care provider extensively.

Nice, simple, practical. I love it. I also found that keeping a thank you journal to God gave me great blessings and made me a better vehicle for blessings for others.
