What we think of our spouses and how we treat each other can greatly affect the quality of our marriage. There are many causes that can lead to a bad marriage. Likewise, there are many ways that we can build positive marriages. Here are some specific ways to build a positive marriage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Write down all the things that you admire or cherish, or that are important to you about your spouse.

  2. Step 2

Recollect your courtship days, and write down what attracted you to your spouse.

  3. Step 3

Speak positively about your spouse in the presence of your children and friends without being too boastful. Let him or her hear of how you admire him and respect him.

  4. Step 4

Make an effort to avoid negative emotions or saying things when you are angry. Words that are lashed out when angry are usually hurtful and impossible to retract.

  5. Step 5

Set aside time to rekindle love. If possible, go on a date at least once a week to reconnect, especially if you have younger children. Find time to be intimate.

  6. Step 6

Talk softly and use uplifting words to encourage one another. Remember, harsh words create contention.

  7. Step 7

Maintain integrity of your relationship by being honest, true and respectful of each other. Ask for forgiveness often even if you are right.

  8. Step 8

Express your love to each other daily.

  9. Step 9

Do little acts of service for each other.

  10. Step 10

Be patient, remember no one is perfect and set a good example.

  11. Step 11

Never give up on each other.

Tips & Warnings
