Step 1
Define your purpose. If you're trying to take advantage of a real estate market, it's a very different process than trying to send a few casual pictures to your out-of-town relatives. Decide what you're trying to accomplish before putting the time and energy into accomplishing it.
-
Step 2
Take a lot of photos. Remember those photo albums of slightly out-of-focus pictures? Or spending time and energy running to the photo lab? Well, those days are over. With digital photography, the chances are you can print any photo you want right from your computer. So take as many pictures as possible. If they aren't good, don't worry about it--it's cost you literally nothing.
-
Step 3
Use lighting. Again, this depends on how deep you want to get into taking pictures of your home. But a little extra time can produce fantastic results. Experiment by opening a window shade or taking a lampshade off. If you are selling your home, light and bright is the way to go. If you are taking a moody shot of the exterior of your house to place in the hallway, a barren, overcast fall day may be the way to go.
-
Step 4
Utilize software. Most digital cameras come with software with which you can upload pictures to your computer. And the beauty of it is you don't just have to print them out. You can perform a number of functions like cropping, changing the color, reducing red-eye, changing the size of the photo. With modern technology, it's almost as if we all have our own little photo studio. The more you enhance and edit your photos the more impressive they will be. (Especially if you're trying to sell your home.)

Step 5
Present the home photos in an attractive way. Depending on your project, framing, scrapbooking, albuming and the like are great ways to present your photos to family and friends. Taking this extra step will add an impressive homemade touch!
