    Things You'll Need

    • candles, candle holders, seasonal faux or real flowers, flower vases

Take a good long look at your interior spaces and your outdoor living areas. Write down the areas in your living spaces that need an infusion of beauty and harmony. Make note of the colors used in that area and the design theme you notice. Example: rustic, loft style, traditional, cottage style, etc.

Create a shopping list by area which includes the number of candles you will need, the sizes, the styles, scents and colors of candles, the number and style of candle holders, candle chandeliers or candle lanterns. Be sure to add seasonal accents to your list such as: faux flowers, rustic branches, accent statuettes, etc.

Go shopping at your favorite local candle store for the items you need or visit one of the online candle sellers such as Illuminations.com. Be sure to stay with the color scheme and design theme on your list, or you will go home with a mismatched grouping of candles and holders and your look will not be completed.

Once you get home, group your candles, accents and candle holders near the spot you wish to decorate. Pick your first grouping area and stand back and look at the space and begin to add your candles and candle holders one by one, striving for balance and harmony of composition. Once you have an attractive grouping begin to slowly add your accents/florals. Be sure to step back from your creation every so often to make sure that you are continuing your theme and not going overboard in your candle arrangements. Remember...less is sometimes more. If you should find that you have over done your design, remove items until a perfect visual balance is achieved.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Keep it simple - less is more

    • Harmonize your colors and keep them close to nature

    • Redo your candle groupings each season

    • Keep your candles and accents for the next year

    • Place all candles on NON-FLAMABLE surfaces.

    • Choose only non-flammable candle holders made of metal, ceramic or glass. Stay away from wood candle holders since the candle can overflow and ignite your wooden candle holder.

    • Keep all accents and florals safely away from you candles' flame.

    • Trim your candle wicks to 1/4 inch before lighting your candle and extinguish them frequently to retrim your wicks.

    • NEVER leave a burning candle un-attended.

    • If you have rambunctious pets or young children, keep your candle groupings on your mantle or a high shelf out-of-reach of curious paws and little hands.

    • NEVER leave a child or pet alone in a room with a lighted candle.

    • NEVER place candles near curtains or shades. If you open a window check to see whether or not your curtains or drapes will be blow in the path of the candle flame.
