Most stock the bar parties are cocktail parties, so you should select food that is easy to eat as people are drinking. Depending on your theme, you can serve anything from potato chips to caviar.

Select Food to Serve at a Stock the Bar Party

  1. Step 1

Select food that can be eaten with the hands, which means keeping it simple and clean. Messy foods will get your guests' hands sticky and end up on your floor.

  2. Step 2

Choose food that is easy to cook or put together. Even simple to make hors d'oeuvres can taste like you spent all day on them. Pick bold, unusual flavors to make an impression.

  3. Step 3

Plan a menu for your stock the bar party that includes seasonal fruit and vegetables. You don't want to end up running all over town looking for one ingredient.

  4. Step 4

Remember to provide a couple meat-free options for vegetarian guests. Even if none of your friends have sworn off meat, some of their dates might have.

  5. Plan a Great Menu for Your Stock the Bar Party

  6. Step 1

Consider a fondue party for your stock the bar party. Place a few different cheese and chocolate fondues around with a wide selection of fruits, vegetables and breads for dipping. Be sure to provide plenty of bamboo skewers to use as fondue forks if you don't have enough to go around.

  7. Step 2

Think about a grill your own meat party for an outdoor summer event. Provide plenty of hot dogs, hamburgers and other grillables. Serve margaritas, daiquiris and wine spritzers to keep guest cool. Having guests cook their own food saves you prep time and keeps people involved with your party.

  8. Step 3

Work the theme into your menu. Serve Mexican food at a fiesta and pu pus for a luau. For less obvious themes, you may have to get creative like adding food coloring to make all the food one color or using cookie cutters to make food in a certain shape.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to prepare drink recipes as well. Whether you mix up a batch for the party or simply write unique recipes on coasters so guests can mix up their own drinks, create something special that matches the theme of your party.
  • Pick food that can be prepared the day before. You don't want to be cooking right up to when the party starts.
