What supplies you need for a rave really depends what size party you are throwing. Just make sure that you gather your supplies before the event, so you aren't running around on the day of the event looking for those last few items.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sound system
  • Lights
  • Turntables
  • DJ booth
  • Vinyl records
  • PA system

Select Basic Supplies for a Rave

Step1
Rent a really good sound system. The key to any good rave is the music, so you will want powerful speakers and a decent PA system. If your venue already has a great sound system, just make sure your other supplies work on the system.
Step2
Borrow or rent DJ equipment. You need at least two turntables, a CD player and a mixing board. Your best bet is to borrow equipment from a DJ if you happen to have one as a friend. His turntables will be far superior to any rental.
Step3
Pack extra needles, headphones, turntable mats and wires. You should provide extra of anything that can be packed up by a DJ rushing out of the booth.
Step4
Select lights that will work for the space. You can usually rent lights from the same place as the sound equipment.
Step5
Decide if you want a bubble or fog machine to add atmosphere to your party. These can add atmosphere, but at an added cost.
Step6
Provide anything that a live band may need. While raves tend to focus on DJs, live ambient and trance bands are also quite popular. A band will need sound equipment at the very lease, so select mixing boards and PA systems that will handle the DJs and the bands.
Step7
Make sure you have the proper cables. If you rented the equipment, check the connections before you accept the equipment. Many DJs use digital music now, so you will also want to bring all the necessary cables to hook up a laptop or MP3 player.
Step8
Use the walls at your party to showcase a large-scale art installation. While art goes beyond basic supplies, decorations are key to making a space look great.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a list of all the supplies you need and double check it a few days before the party.
  • Make sure that your insurance covers damage to rented equipment. If it does not, you should consider taking out a policy with the rental shop.
  • If you are throwing your rave in an empty space, like a warehouse, you will also need barware and chairs.
