Location is key, and that applies wholeheartedly to any rave venue you may choose. With the right venue, your rave should go off without a hitch.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Date for your party

Decide What Kind of Venue is Best

Step1
Check the weather. Don't plan an outdoor rave if you live in a rainy climate or it usually snows at that time of year.
Step2
Check with local bars to see if they have an off night when you can throw your party for a minimal cost. An established bar will also save you from having to apply for most of the permits and licenses. You will also have to adhere to a strict capacity rule.
Step3
Look in your city's warehouse district for large open spaces that can be morphed into your rave. This is the best bet for a large party.
Step4
Consider finding a loft or house to rent if you want a more upscale space to use for your rave. You will need to provide tighter security to help avoid damage to the house.

Choose a Venue for a Rave

Step1
Decide how many people you want to have at your rave. You will need to find a venue that will hold at least that many people.
Step2
Listen to the sound system if you are renting a venue that has one built in. Make sure it has decent quality to keep the ravers dancing. If you have to provide your own system, be sure to include that cost in your budget.
Step3
Find out what is included in the venue rental fee. Some venues will include bartenders, security, lighting and sound guys, while others require you pay them outside your rental fee.
Step4
Get the bar guarantee in writing. A bar guarantee is how much you must pay, even if the bar does not earn a dime. You get a percentage of any profit above that line. Since the guarantee is set by the manager for each event, you should get it in writing so that you are not ripped off.
Step5
Shop around for the best price and location. If you give yourself plenty of time to organize your party, you can take your time to choose a perfect venue.

Tips & Warnings

  • Discuss with the manager or rental broker what kind of permits you need to throw a party. If you are using your own home or a rental under the private party guise, be sure that you can prove that your party really is a private affair in case the police show up.
