Even the best planned pub crawl with an amazing theme falls flat if the venues you select are not suitable for the event. Whether you pick bars around a theme or simply because of distance, make sure you choose locations that allow you to enjoy the night.

Select Venues for a Successful Pub Crawl

Step1
Create a list of several bars that are near each other and fit your pub crawl's theme if there is one. Choose plenty more than you actually need for one night.
Step2
Pick bars that are large enough to fit your group, especially if it is large. Look for venues that have extra rooms that you can spread into if the main bar is crowded.
Step3
Select venues that offer more than just drinks. Food will keep people going longer without getting too intoxicated. DJs and pool tables will also give people something to do besides drinking.
Step4
Call each venue you have chosen to see if they allow pub crawls on the day and at the time you will be stopping by. Make sure you tell the owner or manager how many people are in your party. You can also ask if she will provide any discounts or specials for your group. Let her know you will call to confirm the party size and time.
Step5
Create a schedule based on the bars you have decided to visit on your pub crawl. Put them in order by distance, so they can be traveled to along a single line.
Step6
Call each bar back to confirm what time your group will be there. If you have a particularly large group, split each time slot between two bars so each bar will not be overburdened by your pub crawl. Let the people attending decide which of the bars they want to visit during each period.
Step7
Remember to find venues that are handicap accessible if anyone in your party requires it. While most venues have accessible entrances, you want to make sure there is enough space to maneuver a wheelchair inside.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose back-up venues nearby if you do not call the bars ahead of time. You might just get turned away at the door if the bar is too crowded.
  • Fun themes can be organized around bars, such as "All Original Wood Bar," "Bars that Start with B" or "Bars with Co-Ed Bathrooms." Anything can become a theme.
