Wink may not be as popular as its more well-known cousin, Spin the Bottle, but its origins may go back further. With variations dating back to the 19th century, Wink is a harmless partnership or kissing game that is sure to be a hit among teenagers and young adults.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Odd number of players, at least seven or more

Play Wink

Step1
Allow all the players to select partners. The person left without a partner is the Winker.
Step2
Decide with your partner who will sit in the inner circle and who will sit behind. All of the players should now be arranged in a circle, sitting on the floor.
Step3
Begin the game as the Winker by selecting three teams to gain prospective partners. As the Winker, you will wink at them in turn. The object of the game is to be the first person winked at from the inner circle to reach the Winker and kiss him.
Step4
Keep your partner from leaving you by restraining him physically. Try not to hurt but do your best to keep your partner from kissing the Winker. If he manages to kiss the Winder, he now becomes the Winker's new partner and you are the Winker in the next round.
Step5
Yell "Over" once the Winker has been kissed so that everyone in the game knows that this round is over.
Step6
Know that partners sitting directly to the left and right of the Winker are disqualified from being winked at because their proximity makes it too easy to zoom in for the kiss.
Step7
Lay down some ground rules regarding the use of excessive force and tickling before game play begins. Make sure everyone in the group knows that at anytime they can yell "stop" if they no longer wish to play or have been injured.
Step8
Play the more genteel 1940s version of Wink by having all the ladies in the game sit in chairs with their male partners standing behind them. The Winker, who is a man, must wink at several ladies while their partners attempt to hold them in their seats by placing their hands on the ladies' shoulders. The first lady to sit in the Winker's chair is his new partner and her old partner becomes the new Winker.

Tips & Warnings

  • Maintain some ground rules when playing this game such as immediately stopping all play if someone yells stop. With physical games such as Wink, it is important to keep other players' safety in mind and avoid injuring them.
