Planning a kid's party means more than cake and balloons. Keeping the kids entertained is also a big part of a successful children's party. Select the right party games for the age of children attending the party and everyone will have a great time at your next children's party.

Select Children's Party Games

Step1
Fill a piñata full of candy and other prizes and have the children take turns wearing a blindfold. Each one can try to burst it open with a bat or stick. For themed parties, you can find a suitable piñata or go for the traditional fiesta style piñatas for a festive atmosphere. You can also substitute healthy snacks such as bags of carrots or boxes of raisins for candy.
Step2
Plan a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt for your next children's party. In this game, the object can be to either collect a specific item or several. Create a map to the hidden treasure or list of items to find in a scavenger hunt and hand them out at the beginning of the party. Keep the game simple--remember the ultimate objective is to have fun!
Step3
Gather the children into a circle to play 'Duck, Duck, Goose.' One child will be chosen to select the next 'Goose.' This active game can be altered to suit any theme--simply change the words to reflect the party's theme.
Step4
Get older kids talking with '20 Questions.' One player thinks of an object or person and the rest of the party have 20 questions to guess what that object is. The winner then becomes the next to think of something and answer questions. Whoever can stump the whole party can be awarded a prize!
Step5
Have a craft themed party and let the kids be creative (see Resources below). You can find beading supplies and other crafting projects at your local hobby store. If your party has a theme, such as princesses or luau, you can create craft projects that will complement it.

Tips & Warnings

  • To keep party games fun and within budget, choose those which don't require added props or special equipment. Guessing games such as '20 Questions' or elimination games such as 'Duck, Duck, Goose' are inexpensive and entertaining games for school-age children. Other traditional schoolyard games such as 'Tag' and 'Red Light, Green Light' can also be played if space allows.
