Things You'll Need:
- Book on etiquette
-
Step 1
Purchase a good book on general etiquette or check one out from your local library. A great, all-purpose etiquette book is "Emily Post's Etiquette" by Peggy Post, available at Amazon (see Resources below). A general etiquette book will give you the information you need to brush up on your public manners before any kind of party, including lingerie parties.
-
Step 2
Leave your children at home unless the invitation states they are welcome and that child care will be available at the party. Not only is it considered rude to bring children to a party unannounced, but lingerie parties are not suitable events for children in the first place.
-
Step 3
Keep your drinking under control. There will likely be alcoholic beverages served at a lingerie party. While it is certainly acceptable to indulge with your friends, you must avoid becoming overly intoxicated. Not only is it rude, but you may risk saying or doing something to embarrass yourself or offend someone else.
-
Step 4
Avoid pressuring your guests to buy anything, if you are the hostess. It may be tempting to do so, because hostesses get lingerie discounts based on the amount her guests buy. However, lingerie parties are supposed to be fun and relaxed events. It is impolite to put pressure on anyone to purchase lingerie and it will make your guests uncomfortable.
-
Step 5
Invite only people who will also be invited to the wedding. This pertains to lingerie parties thrown as a bridal shower or bachelorette party. Asking someone to a party where they will be expected to buy a gift for the bride-to-be when they will not be granted the pleasure of seeing her get married is just plain tasteless.
