Knitting can be a solitary, quiet activity, but at a party where knitting is the main attraction, the sounds of knitting needles clicking together need not be the only soundtrack. Create a playlist of well-loved songs for your knitting party and your guests will happily knit along with you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Song download service
  • Speakers
  • MP3 player

Stitch Together a Playlist for Your Knitting Party

Step1
Make sure that your sound equipment is up to the task. Today, the easiest way to create a playlist for any event is with an MP3 player with wired or wireless speakers. You should also have plenty of memory left on your player before you download any new songs.
Step2
Consider picking a theme for the music you'll be playing at your knitting party. If the project of the night is holiday ornaments, look for songs which reflect the holiday spirit. If you are throwing a 1960s style swanky cocktail knitting party, put some groovy retro tunes on your playlist.
Step3
Mix up the rhythms to keep the party flowing. By introducing a change in beat periodically, you and your fellow knitters will not become bored with the music being played and may even find yourselves knitting and purling to the beat.
Step4
Incorporate an album listening party into your evening of knitting. Buy your favorite band's latest live album or other special release and enjoy it from start to finish with your knitting friends.
Step5
Create a feeling of warmth and comfort by playing familiar songs by famous singer/songwriters. Lyrics can really take center stage at a knitting party because conversations will generally be soft-spoken and might even be infrequent.
Step6
Throw in some dance hits in the middle of your playlist to re-energize your fellow knitters. Even the most dedicated party goer shouldn't spend all night bent over her knitting. Get your guests to shake their groove thing to keep the party moving.
Step7
Select songs from folk music artists or traditional songs such as the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack. These well-loved American classics might even inspire a sing along among your guests.
Step8
Use a reputable song downloading service such as iTunes to download specific songs legally to your MP3 player (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • Adjust the volume of the music throughout the night to reflect the atmosphere of the room. For beginning knitters, loud music may be too distracting to master the basic skills needed to successfully complete a knitting project.
