Step 1
Look for needles made of bamboo and avoid those made of metal for parties where uninitiated knitters will be attending. Bamboo or wood needles tend to be easier to work with because the yarn does not slip off so easily during the handling required to make the stitch. New knitters generally find the coldness and slippery quality of metal needles difficult to manage in their first knitting attempts.
-
Step 2
Select needles that are larger in size if you want to do projects such as long lacy scarves. Remember that the bigger the needle, the more space there will be between stitches, which means that less time will be required to create a long, skinny chic scarf.
-
Step 3
Provide sharp fabric scissors for your guests. Cutting yarn at the end of a skein or a project requires scissors that will cut sharply and not fray the yarn.
-
Step 4
Select small notepads or pieces of paper and pencils for your guests to jot down notes during the knitting party. They can keep track of their stitches more easily as well as write down helpful hints provided by the more experienced knitters in the group.
-
Step 5
Avoid yarns that are high in polyester content. Though they may be less expensive, these yarns can bunch up and become tangled in the hands of an inexperienced knitter. Yarns made of natural fibers are generally easier to handle and can be found at most hobby stores for a reasonable price.
-
Step 6
Put the supplies that you select into gift bags or baskets so that your guests will have easy access to materials as the party progresses. You might even consider making their well-chosen supplies your party favor for this knitting party!
