Select a Project for Your Next Knitting Party

  1. Step 1

Review a book of knitting patterns for beginners. Here you should find examples of easy to stitch projects that require little experience. You should also find very clear instructions that will help your friends complete the project successfully.

  2. Step 2

Buy enough materials for everyone invited to create a least one completed knitting project during the party. As the host, you should have the correct size needles and yarn as well as scissors on hand for your guests, even if you have asked them to bring these materials to the party.

  3. Step 3

Consider a simple project like a knitted sampler for parties where more advanced knitters might be involved. Browse through your stitch dictionary to find three or four more complex knitting patterns such as lace designs or even cable knit stitches and create a pattern where these are incorporated into a long design. By working together, everyone will improve their skills while learning new stitches.

  4. Step 4

Select a project such as a skinny scarf that may be knit to any length your guests desire. Choose a novelty yarn and use larger size needles to make the stitches large and lacy. Cast on between 10 and 15 stitches and stitch in a garter stitch. Let your guests decide when their scarf is long enough.

  5. Step 5

Do something good for the world when you select a charitable organization to benefit from the projects your guests make at your knitting party. Everything from animal rescue organizations to women's and children's shelters would gladly welcome your knitted items and many will even provide you with the pattern. Organizations such as Newborns in Need are constantly in need of knitted items such as blankets and caps (see Resources below).

  6. Step 6

Give each of your guests a bag to take their unfinished project home and provide them with clear, printed instructions so that they may make multiples of the project they worked on at your party.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for projects that can easily be completed in one or two hours. Ideally, each of your guests should leave the party with a completed project as her own keepsake.
