Instructions

  1. Learn to Use a Template in Scrapbooking

    • 1

Place the template over the page you will be working on. You can secure it around the corners and edges with a bit of tape or gum adhesive if you want to keep it from moving around while you work.

    • 2

Gather your supplies. The type of template you are using will help you determine the supplies you will need. For example, if the template includes a place to affix brads, then you will need to have brads and adhesive on hand.

    • 3

Trace the outlines of any designs on the template. In most cases, this will be done in black pen or marker. However, you are always free to choose another color if it appeals to you.

    • 4

Color in the designs you just traced. Use colored pens and markers for this.

    • 5

Apply stickers, brads, ribbons and other embellishments in the locations indicated by the template.

    • 6

Affix photographs in the positions reserved for them on the template using scrapbook adhesives.

    • 7

Let any wet glue or ink dry. Give this a few hours, if necessary. Keep the scrapbook in a clean, dry place where it is not likely to be disturbed.

    • 8

Remove any tape or gum adhesive from the edges of the template. Then, gently lift the template from the scrapbook page. You have now designed a scrapbook page using a template. Congratulations!

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a template with the first few pages you make as a scrapbooker. Templates will help you get the hang of many scrapbooking techniques, such as making borders and decorative drawings so that you are better able to do them on your own later.

  • When affixing embellishments and photographs, be careful to not accidentally attach them to the template. It will be difficult and messy to remove them later and you may end up causing them damage (a particular concern with photographs).
