Macrame is an art form that allows you to make a host of different things, ranging from the decorative to the practical. A series of knots are made in cords to weave them together and form something artistic and often useful. Like lawn chairs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Strong, sturdy metal chair frame
  • Tape measurer
  • Cord that is strong enough to support the weight of a human being and sturdy enough to hold a good knot without slipping

Make Easy Macrame Lawn Chairs

Step1
Take the dimensions of the chair frame. Measure the length of the back, the length of the seat and the width of each as well.
Step2
Cut a number of lengths of cord that are the length of the back of the chair, plus a few extra inches.
Step3
Repeat step two for the width of the back of the chair and for the length and width of the seat.
Step4
Tie one cord to the top left hand side of the lawn chair frame. Use a knot that's simple, but sturdy and won't slip off or come untied. A regular square knot is probably best.
Step5
Stretch the cord down to the center bar of the frame, which should be the bottom of the chair back, and tie another square knot there.
Step6
Repeat steps four and five with the remaining length-ways chair back cords, until the back of the chair is sufficiently covered for your taste.
Step7
Tie one of your width cords to the top left hand side of the chair back with another square knot.
Step8
Stretch the cord over the width of the frame and tie another square knot at the other end.
Step9
Repeat steps seven and eight with the remaining width cords.
Step10
Repeat steps four through nine to make the seat of the lawn chair.

Tips & Warnings

  • How many cords you cut depends on the width of the chair, as well as how far apart you want the cords spaced. For lawn chairs, the cords don't need to be woven tightly together and can be spaced a little further apart. But at the same time, they shouldn't be spaced too far apart, or they won't be able to support your weight.
  • Cords should be stretched firmly but should give just a little when pushed.
  • This project is easy, but also very involved and time consuming.
