Everyone loves flowers. Flowers are used to bring the energy and vibrancy of nature indoors, and they can help bring any room to life. Flowers also have this same effect on dollhouses--even if they are make-believe miniature flowers. Dollhouse flowers can be an excellent decorating item if you know how to select the right ones.

Select the Perfect Flowers for Your Dollhouse

Step1
Choose in advance where your flowers will go. This way, you will know if you need any extra items when you go to buy the flowers, such as miniature vases, baskets or window boxes.
Step2
Go shopping. Dollhouse flowers can be purchased at most craft stores or online at dollhouse specialty sites such as Dollhouse Miniatures.com (see Resources below). You can also find some great bargains on dollhouse flowers online at eBay (see Resources below).
Step3
Coordinate your colors. Select dollhouse flowers with colors that match or compliment the color schemes of the rooms in which they will be placed. If the flowers are going outside in a window box, make sure they compliment the exterior colors of the house.
Step4
Be seasonal. You may want to consider changing your dollhouse flowers with the seasons. This will give your dollhouse a look that is always current. For example, you could put tulips in the window boxes in the spring and use sunflowers in the fall. Frequently changing flower arrangements in your dollhouse will also help perpetuate the illusion that people really live there.
Step5
Take care of your flowers. Dollhouse flowers have many nooks and crannies for dust to gather. Keep them clean with regular dusting sessions with a small make-up brush.

Tips & Warnings

  • A few carefully placed flowers will go a long way in brightening up your dollhouse.
  • Handle your dollhouse flowers with care. Because they are small and finely detailed, they are easily damaged. Be gentle with your dollhouse flowers and they will last a long time.
  • Remember, the more flowers you use, the more delicate items you will have to dust.
  • Avoid using an excess of flowers, as they may overpower the other items that make up your dollhouse.
  • Make sure any small children who may handle your dollhouse flowers are carefully supervised while doing so. It doesn't take much to break a dollhouse flower and very young children may attempt to put them in their mouths, resulting in a potential choking hazard.
