How to Select Dollhouse Furniture
Choosing furniture for your dollhouse is as much a matter of personal taste as it is aesthetics and design. The furniture you choose for each room of your dollhouse will depend on many factors. The style of dollhouse, the number and placement of rooms, and the kinds of other furniture already in the house will all play a role in determining the dollhouse furniture you select. With the seemingly endless variety of dollhouse furniture out there, making decisions can be overwhelming. However, if you know how to properly select dollhouse furniture, outfitting your dollhouse can be a breeze.

Select the Right Furniture for Your Dollhouse
-
1
Keep it in scale. Make sure the furniture you choose is the appropriate size for your dollhouse. A miniature piano that looks perfect in the parlor of a Victorian mansion dollhouse may look huge and take up the whole room in a Tudor cottage dollhouse.
-
2
Purchase fitting accessories. Just because that miniature fruit bowl looks tiny does not mean it isn't too big for your living room coffee table. If finding accessories that are the right size for your furniture means bringing along a ruler to the craft store to measure things, then so be it.

3
Create themes. Dollhouses are more attractive when their rooms have obvious themes. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and parlors are some common themes of dollhouse rooms. Playrooms and nurseries are also common themes. Choose furniture based on the type of rooms your dollhouse has. Claw-footed tubs and pedestal sinks would go in a bathroom, for example, while bookcases and a roll-top desk would go in a parlor.
-
4
Find furniture from the correct period. In most cases, you will want dollhouse furniture to match the era the dollhouse represents. For example, Victorian furniture would go in a Victorian-style house. However, if you intend for your house to be furnished with modern style furniture regardless of the era of the house, then choose furniture with a modern look.
-
5
Look for quality. Not all dollhouse furniture is created equally. Some is of very poor quality and is flimsy and easily broken. Furniture built with tight joints and seams and more expensive building material is generally of higher quality than furniture made from plastic or balsa wood and held together entirely with glue.
