Pool loungers are a great way to relax on the water and soak up the sun. Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, there is a pool lounger suitable for any water retreat. With a little research, choosing the right pool lounger is simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Decide on a Type of Pool Lounger

  1. Step 1

Consider how much you want to spend. Pool loungers are available at a variety of price points from budget to expensive. Expensive pool loungers tend to have a classy look and can last for many years. On the other hand, inexpensive pool loungers can be easily deflated and packed in a suitcase to take on vacation.

  2. Step 2

Choose what type of material you want your pool lounger made of. Inflatable pool loungers are typically made of plastic or vinyl. Some inflatables are covered in nylon to add to their durability. Non-inflatable pool loungers are usually made of foam. Ensolite foam is a high-end material that stands up to considerable abuse. Non-inflatable pool loungers are the more expensive of the two.

  3. Step 3

Pick what style of pool lounger will work for you. Pool loungers come in many different styles from whimsical floating ducks for children to luxurious 'chaise-style' loungers with built-in beverage holders for adults. Oversized pool mattresses that hold multiple people are great for families.

  4. Shop for Pool Loungers

  5. Step 1

Browse a site like Amazon.com for access to a wide selection of pool loungers (see Resources below). Sort your results by price or manufacturer to select the right one for you.

  6. Step 2

Read consumer reviews of pool loungers at Amazon.com. Try to read at least several opinions before making your choice, as some consumers give products low ratings due to factors that are really beyond the manufacturer's control.

  7. Step 3

Compare prices among competitors. Searching through different inventories will help you determine the going rate for the type of pool lounger you select. Websites like Nextag.com let you compare pool loungers offered by many different Internet sellers (see Resources below).

  8. Step 4

Visit your local pool supply store or big box store. You can save on shipping buy purchasing your lounger in person.

Tips & Warnings
  • Shop at the end of the season for the best deals. Most retailers discount their inventory of pool accessories when the temperature starts to drop and demand goes down.
  • Check the return policy and warranty before you buy an inflatable pool lounger in case it gets damaged.
  • Cheap inflatables puncture and tear easily with use. Spend more if you want your pool lounger to last multiple seasons.
  • Rocks, shells and other debris can damage plastic inflatables. Select a durable pool lounger if you plan on using it in a natural body of water.
  • Don't plan on using a pool lounger in the ocean unless you're in a protected cove. Inflatables can easily be swept out by the current.
