Betting on roulette can be confusing at first, but with just a little practice it becomes much easier. Once you learn the jargon of roulette, the different bets begin to make sense and you can make better judgments of what to bet and when.

Instructions

    Bet to Win on Roulette

  1. Step 1

Familiarize yourself with the roulette wheel and betting area. This is how you determine odds of winning and potential pay outs.

  2. Step 2

Pick a number, a color, even or odd or a number sequence. These are the basic outcomes of each spin on a roulette wheel.

  3. Step 3

Buy your chips. You do not play with actual money on a roulette table. Instead, you purchase chips that you place on the number square or color that signify your bet.

  4. Step 4

Bet straight up. A straight up bet is when you place your betting chip on a single number. Because this bet has the longest odds, it also pays out the most. The pay out is 35 to 1 on a single zero Roulette table.

  5. Step 5

Wager on two numbers by placing your chip between two numbered squares. This is called a split bet and pays out roughly half as much as a straight up bet at 17 to 1

  6. Step 6

Split a split bet into what is called a quad bet. Instead of placing your betting chip between two numbers, place it where the corners of four numbers come together. This is also called a corner bet. It pays out 8 to 1.

  7. Step 7

Try some outside bets. They are called outside bets because the betting area for these bets is outside the number area on the table.

  8. Step 8

Bet on odd or even, red or black. These are outside bets with the best odds. The odds of each are almost 50/50.

  9. Step 9

Bet on number series. Number series bets are known as Column bets or Dozens bets. These bets pay out two to one.

  10. Step 10

Read about other types of roulette bets by purchasing a roulette guidebook (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Roulette odds do not change if you play online. Online roulette programs use a random number generator to determine the outcome so do not expect to be able to crack a code or determine the next spin on an online roulette wheel.
