Sometimes you just want a tasty meal that doesn't take much time or effort to prepare. This hummus recipe is completely cheating, but it results in very creamy, yummy hummus - nobody can tell that you only took 5 minutes to make it! Hummus is usually served with pita bread.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 can (19 oz) chick peas
  • 1/4 Cup tahini (this is sesame butter - like peanut butter made out of sesame seeds)
  • 1+ clove garlic
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 Cup lemon juice
  • paprika (optional - garnish)
  • parsley (optional - garnish)
  • pita bread
  • food processor
Step1
Reserve some of the liquid from the can of chick peas. You will use only as much of this as needed.
Step2
Chop garlic very finely, or crush it if you prefer. The recipe calls for 1+ clove, but we usually use 3 or 4 cloves of garlic. Don't use too much, though, or it will cause terrible stomach burning later on!
Step3
Place all ingredients in food processor, except the paprika and parsley. Blend 2-3 minutes with as much of the reserved liquid as needed to make a smooth paste.
Step4
Spoon hummus into a serving bowl. If desired, sprinkle top with paprika and add a garnish of parsley.

Place bowl of hummus in the center of a large plate. Arrange 1/4 circles of pita bread all around, as in the photo.

You or your guests can use the pita to scoop out hummus - sort of like Middle Eastern chips & dip!

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't exceed 4 regular sized cloves of garlic, or you & your guests may end up with seriously burning stomachs later on. Remember, raw garlic is MUCH hotter than cooked garlic!

on 4/18/2008 In the middle east though, they mix this super hot stuff into the hummus prior to serving! And the hummus isn't too garlicky! Good article!
