Things You'll Need:
- Volleyball
-
Step 1
Stand at proper distance from volleyball net... make sure your sholders are facing the net.
-
Step 2
If you are "right handed" this will be your serving hand. Hold the ball in the NON-SERVING hand at chest level. (Be sure to keep elbow lose, with a slight bend)
-
Step 3
Place the elbow of your SERVING hand at a 90-degree angle behind body above shoulder height. Elbow remains at shoulder height or above throughout the entire serving motion.
-
Step 4
Toss the volleyball (gently) straight up into the air. (A perfect toss is just less than arms length away from you, and centered to the middle of your body.)
-
Step 5
As you begin to accelerate your SERVING hand to hit the ball take a step forward with opposite foot (this will balance you as you strike the ball). Then you will need to strike the ball with the lower portion of your palm on your serving hand, use your back to guide you forward. You will be making somewhat of a "punching" motion toward the ball.
-
Step 6
As you are striking the ball make sure you follow through with your strike... the arm of your serving hand should be completely extended at the point of contact. Kepp your hand flexed and your wrist locked, this will ensure that you get a strong hit.
-
Step 7
If you failed at your first attempt, try again! There are a few common mistakes as to why you may have failed... take a look at them and correct your errors...
COMMON MISTAKES
-Poor Toss
-Loose wrist or hand
-Swing of arm across body
-Wrong foot in front (poor balance)
-Slow arm swing
