Things You'll Need:
- BLENDER or FOOD PROCESSOR
- 2-4oz measuring tool
- Sealable plastic bags
- Cooking Pot
-
Step 1
The first thing you will need to do is buy your foods. You will want to make sure you get a variety of fruits, vegetables, and meats, but, there is no need to buy a bulk amount unless you want to store enough food for a few months. Start with a small amount of each and then when you learn about how many jars each product will make it will be easier to stock.
-
Step 2
FRUITS-
Fruits are very simple to do as you do not need to cook them. You can opt to peel the fruits if you desire. (I left the skin on most of mine, as there are many nutrients in the skin). Once you have peeled the fruit you will need to cut the fruit into cubes, make sure if the fruit has seeds or a core that you dispose of this. -
Step 3
BLENDING AND FREEZING-
Add your product and about 1/4 cp of water and begin to blend. You may need to add more water to make sure that you get the consistency that you want, Add water by the 1/4cp full. Don't worry if your food ends up too watery... this problem is easily resolved! (See the end of the article) Once you have a good batch of babyfood in the blender you can easily create a "babyfood jar" size serving by measuring out 2-4oz increments. You will then need to add the selected measurment of food into a sealable plastic bag. The next step is simple... Just stick it in your freezer!! -
Step 4
VEGETABLES-
Depending on how you choose to do the vegetables this task can be a bit harder than the fruits. If you opt for FRESH vegetables you simply need to cook the vegetables in a pot of boiling water until they get soft... this can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour depending on the vegetable. Then you simply need to repeat the "blending and freezing" step above. You may want to make this easier on yourself by simply buying canned vegetables, which you do not have to cook. -
Step 5
MEATS-
Cook your meat in a pot... it is okay to add some spices if you desire, though your child may not accept this. If you have problems with the meat "sticking" to the pot... just add some water. Once your meats are cooked repeat step 3 "Blending and Freezing" -
Step 6
THAWING-
This is generally very simple. About 10-15 minutes before baby is ready to eat remove the bags you desire to feed the baby and stick them in a bowl of HOT water to thaw. THere is no need to microwave... the water usuall does the trick rather quickly. -
Step 7
BABYFOOD TOO WATERY!!
If your babyfood is too watery there is no need to worry! This can happen often... all you need to do is add some baby cereal to the mixture... generally about a Tablespoon will do the trick, and the positive to this is that your baby is also getting the added nutrition on the cereal as well!!
