Now that you've taken the time to plant an herb garden, it's time to decorate it. Consider water fountains, wrought iron benches or patterned walkways to add the finishing touch to your garden. Read below for tips on finding the perfect details to personalize your new herb garden.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Add a fence as a backdrop, a privacy screen or to section off the herb garden. Select from wrought iron, white picket, rustic wood or stone. Use available materials and colors that contrast with those of the herb garden.
Step2
Place containers throughout the herb garden, along pathways or at the entrance. Plant herbs or other flowers in terra-cotta pots, resin planters, wood barrels or old crates. Containers add color, texture and character to the herb garden.
Step3
Lay decorative walkways in the herb garden. Line paths with chamomile or Irish moss for a soft carpet. Patterned brick, pea gravel or crushed seashells are unique materials to decorate with.
Step4
Decorate a formal herb garden with water fountains, elaborate sculptures, gazing balls on pedestals and unique lighting fixtures. Use these items as focal points in the herb garden.
Step5
Locate a bench, wooden swing or stool near the aromatic plants in the herb garden to encourage visitors to stop and sit. Add a bistro table with chairs, so you can enjoy a light meal in the garden.
Step6
Add bird accessories to the herb garden for hours of avian observation. Locate bird feeders near the edge of the garden where the birds feel safe enough to land and eat. Place a bird bath in the open where the rain can refill it.
Step7
Select unique garden accessories that will draw visitors to the herb garden. Hang a large wind chime or gong near the entrance. Paint garden characters or faces on the walls or fence nearby. Set up a sundial in the center of the herb garden or relocate Aunt Betty's pink flamingos from her yard in Florida.

Tips & Warnings

  • Limit the number of decorations in the herb garden to maintain the emphasis on the herbs and not the accessories.
