Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Plant a large plot of catnip for your cat. It's not an urban myth, cats really like catnip and they will enjoy rolling in it and eating it.

  2. Step 2

Include pyrethrum in the pet herb garden to make sachets to hang on your pet's collar. The pyrethrum will repel fleas and mosquitoes when the pet is outdoors. You can also rub fresh pyrethrum leaves on your pet's fur or attach sprigs to the collar.

  3. Step 3

Sow parsley, dill and savory in a patch for your pet rabbit. They like to eat these succulent herbs as much as we do. Plant away from the vegetable garden so wild rabbits are not attracted.

  4. Step 4

Grow chamomile in the pet garden to use in the dog bed. Cut the stems and flowers and mix with the dog bedding to repel fleas.

  5. Step 5

Harvest garlic from the pet garden, roast it in the oven and add to your pet's food. Garlic will help to repel insects.

  6. Step 6

Plant comfrey in the pet garden to provide shade for toads and any reptilian pets. Nearby amphibians will enjoy the shade as well.

  7. Step 7

Decorate the pet herb garden with sitting areas for kids and their pets. Place small benches and stones to sit on. Insert clay pipes in the ground for toad houses and flat rocks for snakes to sun themselves on or hide under.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be prepared for a population of animals and kids in your herb garden for pets. Make it durable.
  • Keep digitalis or foxglove out of the pet herb garden. It is toxic to kids and animals.
