1. Look in your phone book for area code maps. There should be a map showing local area code boundaries. The white pages should have a map of the United States listing the area codes in each state. If an area has more than one area code, there will be an asterisk followed by a list of the area's codes.

2. Scan through an Internet area code database. You really can find anything online. If you're looking to find where a specific area code is located, you will be able to find sites that list all area codes in numerical order. If you need to find out the area code for a particular city, the site will tell you that too. Take your pick, dial and reconnect.

3. Call an operator. It might sound archaic, but a telephone operator has information about every phone number in every state at his fingertips. Although the phone companies generally charge you for calling the operator, the time it will save you may be worth it.
