How to Launder Bath Towels

Whether you have ordinary cotton bath towels or expensive, luxurious, Egyptian cotton, there are a number of things you can do to keep them soft, absorbent and lasting for years. Investing in quality bath towels and taking proper care of them by following these easy steps will make you feel like you're in a luxury hotel. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Sort towels according to their color and wash like colors together in each load.

    • 2

Add bleach to loads of white towels only.

    • 3

Use a mild detergent according to instructions and add the correct amount for the size of your load of laundry. Add one-half cup of baking soda for added freshness if desired.

    • 4

Wash and rinse in warm water on the gentle cycle.

    • 5

Transfer towels to the dryer immediately and dry on a cotton setting. If you like to hang dry your towels outside for that outside freshness, just bring them in and run them through a fluff cycle in your dryer prior to folding them and putting them away.

    • 6

Remove towels from dryer, fold immediately and put them away. Laundered properly, towels will remain soft and absorbent for years.

Tips & Warnings

  • Line your linen closet shelves with scented drawer liners for a nice scent.

  • Always wash new towels separately before you use them the first time and beware of color bleeding that can occur during the first few wash cycles.

  • Egyptian cotton towels are the strongest, most absorbent and most luxurious of all cotton towels.

  • Soft water is much better for laundry.

  • Never use fabric softener on towels because the chemicals can actually make the towel less absorbent, stiffer and prone to repel water.
