How to Sew on a Scrapbook Page
Even if you cannot sew on a button, you can sew on a scrapbook page, adding interest and a unique accent. Sewing with a straight stitch, a patterned stitch or a zig-zag stitch are equally easy to apply to a scrapbook page. You can stitch a border around the whole page or attach journal boxes with a few simple stitches. Ribbons and borders are enhanced when additionally stitched. You can hand-stitch on a page but it is just as easy to pull out your sewing machine.

1
Choose a medium weight piece of cardstock. If you are using a lighter weight paper, add support by gluing a backing piece of paper on the back.
-
2
Draw a faint line where you want to sew your line.

3
Choose your stitch pattern and length on your sewing machine. Make sure the length is far enough apart that it does not rip your paper.
-
4
Start your stitch and proceed slowly.
-
5
Follow the line you have traced closely until you have reached the end of the page.
-
6
Snip the excess threads away.
-
7

Tips & Warnings
Practice on a scrap piece of paper first.
If you are concerned about stitching directly on your scrapbook page, sew on a separate border or block and adhere it to your page.
Check your stitch tension and length before sewing on your scrapbook page.
Tack down titles, ribbons or borders even if you are sewing over them. This keeps them securely in place.
