How to Use Raffia on a Scrapbook Page

Raffia is a natural fiber made from palm leaves which have been dried and shredded. Raffia makes a unique accent for a nature based scrapbook page and add a flat but interesting texture. Raffia can be used in a variety of way and comes in an assortment of colors. Use raffia in place of fibers on your scrapbook pages for a bigger impact.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tag Punch
  • Cardstock
  • Title Letters
  • Brads
  • Photo
  • Raffia
  • Pen
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

    Mat a photo with an extra large border of 1 inch around the photo.

  2. Step 2

    Wrap a piece of raffia around all four sides, taping to the back of the photo mat.

  3. Step 3

    Attach four brads in each corner, securing the raffia to the mat.

  4. Step 4

    Glue the photo to the scrapbook page.

  5. Step 5

    Punch out a tag with a handheld punch.

  6. Step 6

    Tie a piece of raffia through the tag hole. Either loop the raffia and leave a jagged edge at the top or finish with a tied bow.

  7. Step 7

    Attach the tag to the scrapbook page to use for journaling.

  8. Step 8

    Loop a piece of raffia into several loops to make flower petals. Secure with extra large brad as the center.

  9. Step 9

    Add flower to the bottom corner of the scrapbook page.

  10. Step 10

    Glue a section of raffia flat across the top of the scrapbook page for an interesting texture. Add the title letters on top of the raffia. You can use stickers, rub-ons or a die cut letters.
