How to Use Vellum on a Scrapbook Page

Vellum used to be reserved for bridal invitations and formal events. Now you can add vellum to a scrapbook page for a touch of elegance. Its cloudy appearance adds softness to a scrapbook page without overpowering. Its see-through quality makes it ideal for layering. Vellum is also perfect for computer journaling because you can run the vellum sheet through your printer, trim the journaling block and adhere over your patterned paper. It can also be used for envelopes, as a frame or to create tags.

    Things You'll Need

    • Vellum Adhesive
    • Chalk
    • Vellum Paper
    • Stickers
      • 1

Gather four different colored pastel vellum sheets.

      • 2

Tear a 1-inch piece from one sheet, creating a ragged edge.

      • 3

Rip the next three sheets at one inch increments. You should have four sheets measuring 1 inch, 2 inches, 3 inches and 4 inches.

      • 4

Layer the four sheets together, using vellum tape so the adhesive does not show. The bottom edge should line up. The torn edges will be graduated.

      • 5

Chalk the torn edges with a complimentary color, adding dimension.

      • 6

Add a title on top of or underneath the vellum. Pastel letters can be used on top or black block letters will show through if used underneath.

      • 7

Attach the vellum element onto the scrapbook page using vellum tape, brads or eyelets.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Tear paper easily by wetting the paper with a water pen or a wet cotton swab. The paper will tear exactly along the wet area.

    • Do not use regular adhesive on vellum. It will show through. Even with vellum tape, test it first. Sometimes textures will show through.
