Chalk can be used for more than chalkboards. On a scrapbook page, it adds dimension, softens the page and provides a blush of color. Inexpensive and versatile, it can be used to color in images such as line drawings or stamped images or it can be used to create texture and shadows.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chalk
  • Blending Pen
  • Cotton Swab
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Choose an image where you want to add color, such as a rubber stamped image, a cardstock sticker or a paper piecing.

  2. Step 2

Using a cotton swap or a blending pen, pick up a small amount of color from the chalk pad. Start with the lightest color first.

  3. Step 3

Apply color to the image in a circular motion. Apply only a small amount in order to gauge the concentration. If you are using a blending pen, do not saturate the paper. Allow it to dry before adding additional color.

  4. Step 4

Add more color until the desired intensity is achieved.

  5. Step 5

    Move onto the next color.

  6. Step 6

Blend colors by using a clean swab or your finger.

  7. Step 7

Permanently fix colors by applying crystal lacquer or a chalk fixative spray. This prevents smearing.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can remove color with a special chalk eraser. A pencil eraser doesn't always work.
  • Adding white to an image highlights the image. Black deepens a shadow.
  • Try chalking on black paper as well. It makes a dramatic presentation.
