Eyelets are used in everything from clothing to shoes. Now they make their appearance on scrapbook pages, adding a small metallic touch and a unique accent. With a hole punch and an eyelet setting tool, you can add an eyelet to a page or card in just seconds.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Setting Mat
  • Hole punch
  • Eyelet
  • Hammer
  • Eyelet setting tool
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Place a piece of paper onto a sturdy surface, protecting the surface underneath with a self-healing mat or a special eyelet setting mat. Choose a hard surface such as the floor or a countertop.

  2. Step 2

Choose the correct size hole punch and center over the pencil mark.

  3. Step 3

Using a firm tap, hammer the punch once, cutting all the way through the paper. It might take more than one tap.

  4. Step 4

Place your eyelet in the hole, keeping the large part towards the front of the paper.

  5. Step 5

Turn the paper over and place the setter tool over the smallest end of the eyelet.

  6. Step 6

Hammer the end of the setter tool, spreading the smallest end out and flattening the eyelet. A secured eyelet will resemble an open flower. Repeat hammering until flattened, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • You might have to hammer more than once in order to cut through the paper or flatten the eyelet.
  • There are special eyelet setting tools that don't require hammering. Most can be found at scrapbook or craft stores.
  • Project your other pages by using a small piece of acid-free tape to cover the sharp backs of flattened eyelets.
  • Watch your fingers while hammering.
