Decorative scissors add an elegant touch to any scrapbook page. Available in a variety of styles like zig-zag, scalloped, wavy, deckled and more, these craft scissors can be used to decorate a photo mat, create a border or edge a journaling box. Double matting photos with two different decorative edgings is a great way to highlight a special photo. You can even create your own eyelet pattern by cutting a scalloped edge and using a small hole punch in each half circle.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Decorative Scissors
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Hold the decorative scissors in your hand, opening the blades wide. Be sure to make a steady, even cut alongside the photo or along a pencil line you have drawn as a guide.

  2. Step 2

Make your first cut, using the full length of the blade.

  3. Step 3

Line up the blade pattern carefully to your last cut. It often takes several cuts to complete the length of the photo.

  4. Step 4

Cut again, keeping the line straight.

  5. Step 5

Continue cutting, matching the pattern along the way.

  6. Step 6

For corners, match the pattern as closely as possible, then round off with a pair of straight scissors. Photo corners can also be used to hide the corners if the pattern does not line up exactly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice on a piece of scrap paper first.
  • Keep the cut straight by drawing a faint pencil line as a guide.
  • Some patterns work both ways. Experiment with turning the scissors to create different patterns.
  • Always treat scissors carefully to avoid cutting yourself.
