Romantic moonlit walks on the sandy beaches of Mexico are possible, even if you are planning your honeymoon on a budget. If you plan ahead, Mexico can be a very affordable honeymoon destination.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Passports or visas
  • Confirmed reservation
  • Flexibility
  1. Step 1

Research honeymoon locations in Mexico. Using the Internet, choose a few cities that are of interest to you, but stay flexible about the specifics for your honeymoon. The more flexible you are, the easier it will be to plan your honeymoon in Mexico on a budget.

  2. Step 2

Select dates during the low season. The best months to honeymoon in Mexico are October, November and June. Prices are lower during these months, but the weather is still relatively nice.

  3. Step 3

Consider a short stay. You can find three-night vacation packages, which include airfare and hotel, from many U.S. cities to Mexico for under $400 per person.

  4. Step 4

Call Funjet Vacations at (888) 558-6654. Funjet offers a variety of discount vacation and honeymoon packages. Tell Funjet the maximum you are willing to pay and have them build a honeymoon trip to your specifications.

  5. Step 5

Let Funjet pick your hotel. You can save up to 40 percent by letting Funjet Vacations pick your hotel using their Fun for Less program. Just tell Funjet if you want hotels with a one through five star rating. You are guaranteed to receive a hotel equal to or better than the rating that you choose.

  6. Step 6

Consider using a honeymoon registry. Friends and relatives can contribute to your honeymoon fund instead of purchasing wedding gifts.

  7. Step 7

Save on food and drinks. While in Mexico, it is easy to eat and drink on a budget. Let everyone know that you are on your honeymoon. Restaurants will sometimes offer free meals and drinks, while hotels sometimes throw in perks such as complimentary spa services to honeymooners.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read all the details of your contract, including cancellation and modification policies, before booking your honeymoon.
  • Search for promotional codes. Car rental companies and airlines sometimes offer these codes which give significant discounts.
  • Avoid the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico, such as Cancun, Los Cabos and Acapulco, unless you can get a very reasonable package deal.
  • Do not book your honeymoon near spring break or any Mexican holidays.
