How to Prepare For Allergy Season

Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons with blooming flowers and grass turning green. However, with spring also comes the various kinds of pollen in the air that are necessary for spring to be spring. If you are one of those people who are sensitive to this change, you will probably experience the symptoms of sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, stuffy or runny noses and scratchy throats. Welcome to allergy season. While there is no easy cure for allergies, there are ways to prepare for allergy season in order to minimize these discomforts.

  1. Step 1

    "Spring clean" your home.

  2. Step 2

    Dust the house. Dust mites can trigger allergies.

  3. Step 3

    Vacuum carpets as often as possible. Dirt, dust mites and animal dander are typically trapped in the carpet fibers.

  4. Step 4

    Wash all bed sheets and pillow cases frequently.

  5. Step 5

    Change the filters on your air-conditioning vents. These filters are dust and pollen magnets.

  6. Step 6

    Keep windows closed to prevent pollen from coming in the house.

  7. Step 7

    Stay indoors in the morning hours when pollen counts are at their highest.

  8. Step 8

    Wash your hair before going to bed as pollen can get caught in your hair when you are outside.

  9. Step 9

    Give your pets a good bath if they have been outside.

  10. Step 10

    Have the necessary medications on hand. Ask your doctor to prescribe a medicine to help prevent allergies. Or buy some over-the-counter allergy drugs to help relieve the allergy symptoms.
