Step 1
Buy pre-made pillow covers designed specifically for throw pillows. You can easily add or remove the covers, depending on the look you want at the moment.
-
Step 2
Insert a throw pillow into a standard pillowcase, then tie the end with a large piece of ribbon or a tassel. Since pillowcases come in an endless array of colors and designs, this technique will allow you to get the exact look that you want.
-
Step 3
Remove a pocket from an old pair of jeans and affix it to one of your pillows using an iron-on fabric tape. Or, if your pillow's cover is removable, you could sew the pocket on. Add decorative trim or other embellishments as desired.
-
Step 4
Stencil a single-letter monogram onto a bare pillow. Place the stencil on the pillow, tape it to the fabric using a tape that will be easy to remove, then simply paint in the letter with a fabric-safe paint. You could also use this technique on a pillow cover if you don't want the letter to be a permanent addition to your pillow.

Step 5
Makeover a neck-roll pillow by covering it with a new plaid or striped dish towel and tying off the ends with a wide, wired ribbon. Use your no-sew hem tape to secure the towel where the top meets the bottom.
-
Step 6
Cover your small square throw pillows (12" or smaller) with a no-sew bandana cover. Lay two bandanas back-to-back and cut three-inch-deep slits (slits will be deeper for smaller pillows) every 3/4 of an inch or so, cutting off the corners of the bandanas before you finish. Insert the pillow between the bandanas and, starting from the corners, tie the fringes together around the pillow.
