Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Plaster of paris
- Craft glue
- Foam picture frames
- Glitter glue pens
- Paper mache mix
- Green tissue paper
- Small Toys
- Balloons
- Paint and brushes
- Digital camera
- Plastic dinosaurs
Step1
Write short, funny tongue twisters before the party that include the names of dinosaurs. One example is the following: "A Triceratops teeth chew tough treats." Have kids sit in a circle while you pick one of the sentences and whisper it only once to one of the players. That player whispers what they think was said to the person to their right; and the new person tells another person until everyone in the circle hears it. The last person says aloud what they think they heard, and then reads the original sentence. You will laugh yourself silly at what you hear.
Step2
Make some dinosaur eggs out of balloons and paper mache. You can mix flour and water for your own recipe, or just use wallpaper paste. When they dry, pop the balloon and fill the eggs with small toys. Then paint and decorate the eggs and place them on shredded green tissue paper designed to look like a nest. Kids will love cracking these party favors open to reveal the hidden prize.
Step3
Hide plastic dinosaurs around the house or yard, and have the kids search for as many as they can find. If you have several different species, instruct the kids to find one of each type of dinosaur. If they find a species they already have, they get to place the duplicate dinosaur in a new hiding place.
Step4
Make fossil prints using plaster of paris and water mixed to a very thick consistency. Have the kids gently push a small plastic dinosaur into a dollop of the plaster to make an imprint. Let dry for about an hour, and have the kids take their fossils home as party favors.
Step5
Take pictures of the kids dressed like a paleontologist or holding a dinosaur egg using a digital camera. Print the pictures and glue them onto a foam picture frame. Let the kids decorate them using glitter glue or foam dinosaur shapes.
