Obtaining a mounted position in a mixed martial arts fight or jujitsu event is one of the most dominant positions you can achieve. From the mount you have almost total control over your opponent's movement. An armbar from this position is a popular and fairly easy technique to perform. Read on to learn to perform a jujitsu armbar from the mounted position.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Mixed Martial Arts Gear
  • Training Partner

Step1
Control one of the other fighter's arms. Many times if you are striking your opponent from the mount, they will put their arms up in defense. This allows for easy access to control one of their arms.
Step2
Place one hand on the opponent's chest. Be sure to maintain control of the trapped arm.
Step3
Push off the other fighter's chest. This will create space and allow you to rotate your hips around the trapped arm.
Step4
Swing the leg on the outside of the opponent's arm over their head. This is done after you rotate your hips around the arm. Try to rotate and throw the leg over in one smooth motion.
Step5
Squeeze the trapped arm with your knees and pull it towards your chest. Stay as close to the other fighter's head and shoulder as possible. If there is space then the lock will not be as tight, and it may give your opponent an opportunity for escape.
Step6
Keep the thumb on the fighter's trapped arm pointed up.
Step7
Thrust your hips forward. This will cause an extreme amount of pressure on your opponent's elbow and forearm area. They will either have to tap in submission or risk a serious arm injury.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice this technique over and over again. It is a fairly easy jujitsu move, but mastering it will still take a good amount of practice.
  • Be careful when practicing this technique with a training partner. It can cause serious injury which could take months to fully heal.
