The elusive late night snack has been a problem for many people for years. It's time for bed and your stomach is growling, once again. How easy it is to reach for that bag of chips or piece of bread, and before we know it, we are stuffed. Here are some steps to take to prevent overeating and get to bed.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drink a glass of water. This will help fill your stomach, preventing you from overeating.

  2. Step 2

Ask yourself if you are really hungry. If not, then leave the kitchen.

  3. Step 3

Wait a few minutes before snacking when you first get the urge to eat something. Go wash your face or read for a few minutes. This may help the desire for a snack to pass.

  4. Step 4

Choose a healthy snack if you must eat something.

  5. Step 5

Sit down while you eat. Standing in front of the refrigerator to eat will only lead to more eating.

  6. Step 6

Stock your pantry and refrigerator with healthy choices such as fruits, nuts, veggies and yogurt. These foods are ready to eat without preparation and can be the quick fix you need.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid heavy foods such as breads, pastas and spicy foods that cause indigestion. These may make it hard to get to sleep.
