Whether you live in the country or suburbia, getting along with your neighbors is essential. The main goal in being polite to your neighbors is to help them feel comfortable in your presence. Follow these steps to promote a better relationship the next time you see your neighbors.

  1. Step 1

    Show kindness. If you see your neighbor in need, offer to help them. This could be as simple as picking up a their newspaper or carrying groceries up the stairs.

  2. Step 2

    Greet your neighbor with a kind word. Ask about their day, their family or their job.

  3. Step 3

    Offer to pick up something for them on your way to the store.

  4. Step 4

    Be mindful of your body language. If you seem uncomfortable or anxious around them, they will notice.

  5. Step 5

    Listen to your neighbors. You may have heard the same fishing story many times before, but if you listen closely you can gain new insight and knowledge.

  6. Step 6

    Speak appropriately to your neighbors. Use the proper title before their name, such as Mr. or Mrs. Use kind words with no foul language or slang.

  7. Step 7

    Invite them over for dinner or offer to bring over a meal.
