Things You’ll Need:

  • Camera
  • Sunscreen
  • Walking Shoes
  • Hat
  • Loose, Layered, Seasonal Clothing
  • Insect Repellent

Step1
Park your car at Municipal Auditorium located at the intersection of Riverside Drive and South First Street south of Town Lake.
Step2
Find the trail by walking north from the parking lot.
Step3
Go west along the lake, crossing under the Lamar Boulevard bridge.
Step4
Cross Barton Creek on an arched steel footbridge and follow the main trail heading back to Town Lake.
Step5
Watch for the huge bald cypress trees to your right, below the trail.
Step6
Cross the lake to the north shore at the footbridge under the Texas Loop 1 bridge.
Step7
Turn right at the north shore and follow the trail back to the east.
Step8
Watch for redbud trees lining the shore, which bloom in early spring.
Step9
Cross Shoal Creek on a small footbridge and continue east, passing under the South First Street bridge.
Step10
Climb stairs that take you to a pedestrian bridge crossing the lake at South First Street and back to the south side of the lake.

Tips & Warnings

  • In summer, limit hikes to cooler morning hours.
  • Side trails at Barton Creek and Shoal Creek are available for longer hikes.
  • Watch for people riding bicycles on the trail.
