How to Hike Inks Lake Trail in Texas

If the rugged beauty of central Texas and pink granite rock appeal to you, then look no further than Inks Lake Trail. About 20 miles from Marble Falls and occupying an area rich in granite rock, this trail is an easy day hike of about five miles. Much of the trail marches through primitive lakeside camp grounds, and is well marked at intersections. Read on to learn how to hike Inks Lake Trail in Texas.

Things You'll Need:

  • Walking Stick
  • First Aid Kit
  • Hat
  • Camera
  • Insect Repellent
  • Snacks and Water
  • Comfortable Hiking Boots
  • Loose, Layered, Seasonal Clothing
  • Small Backpack
  • Sunscreen
  • Trash Bag
  1. Step 1

    Leave from Marble Falls and drive north on U.S. Highway 281 for about 8 miles. Turn left on Park Road 4.

  2. Step 2

    Drive about 13 miles to the entrance of Inks Lake State Park.

  3. Step 3

    Find the trailhead at the gravel parking lot next to the headquarters parking.

  4. Step 4

    Proceed along the trail from the gravel parking lot.

  5. Step 5

    Take a left toward the main trail loop after 2/10 of a mile.

  6. Step 6

    Take a left at the next fork onto the main trail after about 2/10 of a mile.

  7. Step 7

    Follow the loop trail for about 5 miles round-trip.

Tips & Warnings
  • See wildflowers in bloom during the spring months.
  • Take in the scenic loop on the south end of the trail.
  • In summer, limit hikes to cooler morning hours.
  • Camping is allowed by permit only.
