Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ocean Sounds or Soft Music
  • Yoga Mats
  • Comfortable Clothing
  • Knowledge of Basic Yoga Poses
  1. Step 1

Start with teaching proper breathing techniques. Ask the child to lay with the back to the floor and to close their eyes. Instruct the child to inhale slowly through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Do this several times enjoying the quiet.

  2. Step 2

Show the child some easy yoga poses. Practice Downward-Facing Dog by instructing the child to place hands and feet flat on the ground. Child's Pose requires kneeling on the floor, resting hips on heels, extending the arms forward and placing the forehead on the mat. Tree Pose promotes balance by standing on one foot with both hands in the air. Finally, ease into Cobra by asking the child to lay with the stomach to the floor while lifting the head and chest at the same time.

  3. Step 3

Move slowly and talk in a soft voice. Direct your child through each pose in slow, fluid motions and use a soothing tone.

  4. Step 4

Make it fun. Make up different names for the poses or pretend to be different animals or plants. You can use your imagination and even let the child direct you on which pose to perform next.

  5. Step 5

Practice often. If you do yoga together often, the child will look forward to spending this quiet time with you. It is a great way to unwind after a long day and to spend quality time with the little one.
