How to Teach a Child Sudoku

Sudoku is a puzzle that requires reasoning and logic to solve. They have only one way to solve them and they are quite fun and addictive. Teaching children to do Sudoku is a great way to enhance their reasoning and logic skills while having fun. Follow these simple steps to teach a child Sudoku.

Things You'll Need

• 4 different kinds of stickers
• Pencil
• Paper

Instructions

1. Start with a 4x4 grid for the child to work on. The conventional puzzle is done on a 9x9 grid, but it is easier for a child to manage the smaller version.

2. Start by using stickers. Images are less intimidating than numbers for some children. You should have 4 different stickers.

3. Make the grid. Draw a 4x4 grid on a piece of paper making the third vertical line and the third horizontal line darker than the rest.

4. Teach the child the rules. The rules are that each vertical row, horizontal row and square (made by the darker lines) has to have all four different stickers in them.

5. Help the child. While they are reasoning out the puzzle, occasionally point out the answers if they get frustrated. They will eventually see the patterns and be able to do it on their own.
