Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Voter Registration Application
- Physical mailing address
- Acceptable form of identification
Step1
Meet the criteria to register. You can register to vote 90 days before you turn 18; however, you must be at least 18 years of age on Election Day, not a convicted felon (unless sentence, probation and parole are completed and you provide a copy of your discharge papers) and be a resident of Alaska.
Step2
Register to vote when applying for or making changes to your driver's license or upon establishing residency in Alaska at the Division of Elections office or by mail or fax.
Step3
Read the instructions on the form and fill it out using black ink. The application is a simple one-page application. The application cannot be processed without the address where you live, verification of identity and date of birth.
Step4
Submit the form by mail or fax to a Division of Elections office or in person at one of many designated places. You can visit the Division of Elections office Web site to find local offices using the link found in references.
Step5
Identity must be verified before your application is complete. Preferred identification is your Social Security number, Alaska driver's license or Alaska State ID card. If you do not have any of these forms of identification, you may still apply using an alternate form of identification.
Step6
Receive your voter identification card in the mail in three to four weeks. Cards are mailed once a month, usually around the second week of the month.
Step7
Check your voter identification card carefully for errors. Correct any errors and return it to the Division of Elections office immediately.
