Driving in Oklahoma is a privilege, not a right. You can be fined, your license revoked or even be imprisoned for not obeying all traffic laws. Oklahoma residents must have an Oklahoma driver license to operate a motor vehicle on Oklahoma streets and highways. Obtaining an Oklahoma license can be accomplished by following these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Verification of insurance
  • Oklahoma Driver's Manual
  • Vehicle in good mechanical condition
  • Vehicle with valid tag
  • Social Security Number
  • Proper identification

Step1
Obtain and study an Oklahoma Driver's Manual. Manuals are free and available at any Driver License Exam Stations across Oklahoma. Manuals cannot be mailed, but can be downloaded from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Web site.
Step2
Apply for your license in person at a Driver Testing Facility. Locations and hours can be found in the Manual or by calling the local testing facility.
Step3
Bring proper identification. You are required to show two forms of identification listed in the Oklahoma Driver's Manual. Proof of liability insurance is also required if you are required to take the driving test.
Step4
Pass all the required examinations. There are three possible tests: a vision screening, a written test and a driving test. You may not be required to take all three.
Step5
Meet all the requirements. The Driver Examiner will give you a form stating the type of license for which you are now eligible, any restrictions that apply and the fee.
Step6
Take the form to a tag agent who will take your picture, collect the fees and issue your license.
